Boys, this is probably a day you want to go play somewhere else. Go check out the Paracord Bracelets or the Robin Hood Hats. Trust me. No one wants to admit it, but almost all of us girls need one of these at one time or another. I don't know how many times I've reached into my purse to grab lipstick and exposed a feminine hygiene product to the world. Maybe it's old-fashioned of me, but I'd just rather keep them hidden from any view but my own.
This is a VERY simple project, so if you have a girly home for the summer that would like to learn to sew, this is a good place to start.
You'll need two rectangles, each 6 inches by 12 inches, cut from two coordinating fabrics.
Lay rectangles right side together. Stitch 1/4" from the edge, all the way around, leaving a small opening for turning.
Clip corners and turn right side out. Press. Top stitch across one short end near edge. Fold that end up 4 1/2" and stitch up sides and topstitch across the other end, close to edge.
Stitch a 3/4" square of Velcro centered on upper flap and 1/8" from upper edge. Stitch the other side centered on pouch and 1/4" from edge. If you're working with a newbie seamstress, it would probably be easier to sew on the Velcro before stitching up the sides, just make sure both pieces land where they should. Press.
Sew a button or other embellishment on outside of flap to cover stitching. I considered using a button for closure, with a button hole on the flap, but personally the fewer hoops I have to jump through to get these things out, the better.
Fill with the appropriate necessities and throw in your purse. Which it totally coordinates with, right?
