Friday Favorites–Strawberries

One of the things I love about where I live is the abundance of strawberry stands in the late spring and early summer.  There is nothing like an Oregon-grown strawberry.  I ate so many when I was pregnant with my daughter I used to joke that she was going to come out all red and covered in seeds.  I’m still waiting for them this year, but in the meantime I found a few substitutes to tide me over.

Apparently, if you paint strawberries to look like rocks and place them near your plants they will help keep the birds from eating the real berries when they’re ready.  Who knew?  Thanks to Creative in Chicago for that bit of info.

Strawberries are cute, but when it comes down to it, my favorite thing to do is eat them.  Thanks to warmer places sharing their crops I don’t have to wait to have these Strawberry Cake Bars from Raining Hot Coupons.  In fact, I think today sounds good.
