I recently had this great idea for a Disney project for Undercover Tourist. I thought a bracelet made from a pressed penny from one of the parks would be easy, inexpensive and fun. Since we’ve been to Disneyland so many times, I knew we had to have lots of those pennies lying around. Well, I was right about the bracelet, but completely wrong about our abundant pennies. I did find tons of pressed pennies – from everywhere but Disneyland. Fortunately, my daughter did some digging and was able to find one for me amongst her stuff. One. That’s a do-not-screw-this-up scenario. Luckily for me everything turned out as planned. The bracelet came together quickly and easily, and I think it’s pretty cute. No lone penny ruined.
I love that I could wear this and still feel like an adult. Not that I’m looking to feel very grown up when I’m in a Disney park, but it’s nice to have the option. This would also be great for a teen or tween looking to add a little more mature look to her park wardrobe.
You can see all of the instructions to make this bracelet on the Undercover Tourist blog. You’ll need a pressed penny, of course, along with some jewelry hardware commonly found where ever craft supplies are sold. I was able to find copper, but I think any color would look good. I mean, when you’re putting it next to Mickey, how can you go wrong?
As you might imagine, the owner of the penny did not give me permanent custody. It was handed over on the condition that it would be returned when I was finished with it. Oh, still as a bracelet? Yeah, she was very okay with that.
So, the moral of the story, besides the fact that you can make some pretty jewelry using a pressed penny, is that apparently I really need to plan a trip back to Disneyland with my pockets full of coins.
